เอี้ยก้วย ณ แอนฟิลด์

เป็นที่รู้ๆกันว่า Laptop หรือ Computer Notebook สมัยนี้ไม่มี Floppy Disk Drive มาให้มานานแล้วเหมือนกัน
เนื่องด้วยความจำเป็นที่ต้องใช้นั้นหมดไป เพราะ USB Flash Drive ถูกนำมาใช้ทดแทนด้วย ความจุที่มากมายกว่ามาก
ถึงอย่างไรก็ตามยังมี Software เก่าๆหลายตัวที่ยังต้องการ Floppy Disk Drive ไม่ว่าจะเพื่อ Install หรือการตรวจสอบ License ก็ตามที
Virtual Floppy Drive 2.1 ซอฟแวร์ตัวเล็กๆที่สามารถจำลอง Floppy Disk Drive บน Windows OS ของคุณ
หวังว่าคงมีประโยชน์ครับ

หลายเดือนที่ผ่านมาฮิตกันเหลือเกินกับ Portable Software หรือ Software ที่สามารถพกพาและเรียกใช้ผ่าน Thumb Drive หรือ USB Drive โดยไม่ต้อง install ลง Windows แต่อย่างใด

ประโยชน์ของ Portable Software นั้นมีมากมาย เช่นใช้ Software ของเราเองกับ Computer ที่เราไม่สามารถ install software ได้เช่น Internet Cafe หรือ ห้อง Computer สถานศึกษา/องค์กร หรือเพื่อการแก้ปัญหาเกี่ยวกับ Virus ที่ไม่สามารถเข้าถึง OS ได้อย่างสมบูรณ์ (ไว้คราวหน้าจะมาแนะนำ Windows PE หรือ Windows Portable Edition ครับ)

และเป็นที่แน่นอนว่า Software ดัดแปลงย่อมมีข้อบกพร่อมไม่สมบูรณ์เท่าตัวต้นฉบับ เพราะ Software เดิมๆแต่ละตัวนั้นไม่ได้ออกแบบมาเพื่อทำงานแบบ Portable แบบนี้ ทำให้บางตัวไม่สามารถใช้ Function บางอย่างได้ครับ

หลายคนที่ได้มีโอกาสใช้ Windows Vista ประทับใจกับสิ่งที่เพิ่มมาจาก Windows XP สิ่งหนึ่งคือWindows Vista Sidebar

สำหรับรูปแบบ GUI อย่างที่เห็นไม่ได้เพิ่งมีใน Vista อย่างที่หลายคนเข้าใจ (แน่นอนอะไรที่เจ้าอื่นทำได้ดี Microsoft ก็จะลอกมาทำเอง เพราะถือว่าข้าเป็นเจ้าของบ้าน อะไรที่ติดบ้านมาย่อมดีกว่า) นอกจากของติด OS อย่างที่เห็นแล้วยักษ์ใหญ่แห่งยุคอย่าง Google และ Yahoo ก็มีซอฟแวร์คล้ายๆกันนี้เหมือนกัน และแน่นอนทางฝั่ง Mac ก็มีของเขา แต่ผมไม่ขอพูดถึงเพราะไม่ได้ใช้งานมานานแล้ว

ซอฟแวร์ลักษณะนี้ เจ้าที่เป็นผู้ริเริ่มอย่างแท้จริงคือ Desktop Sidebar ซึ่งปัจจุบันเริ่มเงียบลงไปเรื่อยๆ และเค้กก้อนนี้คาดว่าคงโดน 3 ยักษ์ใหญ่กินเรียบเช่นเคย

อันนี้คือการเปรียบเที่ยบกับจำนวน Extension หรือ Gadget/Widget ตามแต่ Vendor จะเรียก แต่พูดง่ายๆคือโปรแกรมเสริมเพื่อเพิ่มความสามารถของ Sidebar นั่นเอง

1. Yahoo Widgets: over 4,000
2. Google Desktops Gadgets: over 300
3. Desktop Sidebar Extension: approximate 500
4. Windows Vista Sidebar Gadgets: over 600

ดูปริมาณของ Yahoo แล้วน่ากลัวจริงๆ ส่วนหนึ่งเป็นเพราะรูปแบบของ Yahoo ไม่ได้จำกับที่ Sidebar แบบเจ้าอื่น เป็นตัวล่อใจนักพัฒนาในการใส่ความคิดสร้างสรรเพื่อสร้างผลงานสวยๆออกมาแข่งกัน

กับตัวผมเองนั้น Sidebar ไม่ใช่สิ่งแปลกใหม่ เพราะผมใช้ซอฟแวร์ลักษณะนี้มานานแล้ว โดยใช้ Desktop Sidebar ตั้งแต่อดีตจนมาถึงปัจุบันก็ยังใช้อยู่

ส่วน Extension ที่เปิดใช้อยู่ก็มีดังต่อไปนี้ครับ (เรียงจากบนลงล่างในภาพประกอบ)

• Newsroom: เอาไว้อ่าน Feed จาก RSS/Atom ตามเวปข่าวรวมไปถึง Blog ต่างๆ ผมชอบของ DS เพราะมันมีระบบ Alert แบบของ MSN เวลามันทำการ download ข่าวใหม่เสร็จ
• Clipboard Viewer: โปรแกรมพื้นฐานสำหรับงานเอกสาร คือการเก็บ Clipboard (ที่เรากด Copy ไว้) สะสมได้มากกว่า 1 ทำให้เราสามารถเลือก Clipboard ตัวเก่าๆที่เรา Copy เอาไว้ได้
• Calendar: เอาไว้ดู Upcomming Event ใน Calendar ของ Outlook (ซึ่ง sync กับ PDA/Mobile Phone ได้)
• Tasks: ดูรายการ Tasks ที่ต้องทำ โดยดึงมาจาก Outlook (ซึ่ง sync กับ PDA/Mobile Phone ได้) อีกเช่นกัน
• Weather: พยากรณ์อากาศ โดยจะแสดงข้อมูลของวันนี้และพรุ่งนี้
• System Up Time: แสดงเวลาว่าเราเปิดเครื่องมานานเท่าไหร่แล้ว ผมเอาไว้ดูโดยประมาณว่าวันนี้ผมทำงานมากน้อยแค่ไหน
• World Clock: แสดงเวลาของประเทศต่างๆทั่วโลก

เป็น Software ตัวเล็กๆที่ทำให้ Task Tips เปลี่ยนจากข้อความธรรมดาเป็นรูปครับ
